Room Privatization for Residents

During fall and spring semesters, a room privatization opportunity may be offered to students who wish to live alone in double rooms. Privatization options will be based entirely on space availability. This option is not available in contemporary halls or residential colleges during fall semester. Rates vary by building and room types. Privatization may result in an increase in housing fees.

Privatization begins for Fall 2019: 9:00am on August 30 (traditional halls only)

Privatization begins for Spring 2020: 9:00am on November 22 (traditional halls, contemporary halls, residential colleges)

To start the room privatization process, submit your room privatization request in the student housing portal.

If you have an empty bed in your double room and choose not to privatize your room, then the open space in your room will be available for the rest of the semester for any same-gendered student to select during the room change request process as indicated in your student housing contract. For the remainder of the semester, you will be responsible for keeping half of the room completely cleared and open to accommodate a new roommate who may arrive at any time. You will be notified via Ole Miss Gmail when a new roommate is assigned to your room.  Any inappropriate behavior, including not having the room appropriate condition to accept another roommate, as specified by student housing, or communication with the prospective roommate discouraging acceptance of the assignment, may result in relocation of the resident to another room, legal obligation to pay for a privatized room, and/or disciplinary action.

Once approved, privatization requests cannot be modified for the current semester.

If you privatize your room during the fall semester, the private double room rate will automatically be assessed for the spring semester unless you notify student housing (via email to housing@olemiss.edu) prior to December 1, 2018, that you no longer want a private room.
